JPMorgan private bank moving locations from SA to FT

Hey guys!

I will be doing my SA with J.P. Morgan’s private bank this summer. Long story short I am not in the location near me home and I would prefer to be closer to home if I got a FT offer. I’m wondering if anyone has any insight on how feasible moving offices from summer to ft would be? I know of people who have done it but heard it’s a numbers game, and my office of preference is on the smaller end (abt 3-5 summer analysts per year). If anyone has any advice on how to approach this after I start that would be helpful as well!

Thank you for the help! Not sure if you or anyone on here has any insight into this, but I am wondering what the view on location mobility is in general, I know you said if I am a top performer it’s possible, but do people tend to look down on requests like this? Obviously having no experience with something like this I don’t want to jeopardize a return offer, but my goal really has nothing to do with my office or anything just wanting to be close to home. Thanks again!

It is encouraged actually. But most people will request a location change after working there for a year or two, rather than requesting one after the internship. During the A2A process (2 years as an analyst), if you raise that you want to move back, they will help you. Why not spend some time in a different location for 2 years?

Ohhhh I see! That’s what I had heard in the past from some people but then I talked to an incoming analyst that said I may be better off trying now because they want you to become a banker in the area you did your analyst years, so it’s good to hear he might have been off on that. Thanks for the help! Feeling much better that if it doesn’t work out over the summer mobility is encouraged later on. 😂 thanks again!

i wouldnt worry too much about this.. i have had many summer analyst friends from last summer who went through the internship and went FT and they have mentioned they simply give you a form near the start of your internship and ask you where you want to end up. the process is pretty simple. not sure if you have to re interview or not but i am also in the same boat as you, i am working at an office near my home but want to move to a city.
