Leveraging External Offers

Anyone have any experience leveraging an external offer from a much more prestigious fund to improve your position at you current shop? Assume well regarded sr analyst working for an underperforming/poorly regarded PM internally

  • can the argument “I wasn’t looking but...” be credible if you’re reasonably tenured and above circumstances or will they assume you’re a flight risk and keep you on a short leash after

  • I know this goes without saying but assume the more critical you are to key initiatives/current fund the more leverage you have?

  • have you seen sr analysts use his as opportunity to get opportunity to manage risk assuming it has been lightly referenced as future possibility?

  • assume this can only be pulled once so make it count right?

Any other pros and cons welcome
