Looking for advice to enter into the industry.
Finishing my degree in Finance at the end of the semester with a 2.9 GPA from a state school, signing up for CFA for December. Do you guys have an tips of getting in? How did your resumes look? I've won a school-wide stock trading competition. I like to develop Expert Advisors in MT4. I can code in PHP and MySQL and I'm developing a stock-related website at StockGam.es. Do these things matter? Trading is my passion and I love analyzing and looking for edges and feel like I would strive in that environment since I do these things as a hobby. I'm willing for any entry level position. Should I just send resumes all over the country?
You may have an uphill battle with that gpa and school,,but don't dispair. Perhaps look for a buy side B/O gig to get your foot in the door. That worked for me. Emphasize your programming skills. I would not mention the stock trading competition, that may be a double edged sword... The knowledge of how markets work will help though...
The key for most of us entering this industry who are not from target schools, nor high gpas, nor well connected is to get your foot in the door of a growing shop, with a future...with that comes opportunity to work your way up...
