Offer for a role titled 'Investment Analyst / Associate'
Does this mean my job is to analyse investments but my title is an Associate? Or is this just that the team is hiring both analysts and associate for consideration?
If it's negotiable - should I be pushing for the associate title even though the comp is kind of in between. Perhaps it's better to stay as analyst 2 instead of associate 1 in case I need to re-recruit?
Massively depends on the firm.
At some firms analyst outrank associates. At others (e.g. BlackRock), it's the banking hierarchy.
With the way this is phrased, I imagine it's the latter and it's the same as a bank hiring a senior analyst/junior associate. I.e. title (and pay) depends on previous experience.
Yeah, I worked at BLK prior and this new firm have slightly different model - ie principals instead of VP although this could just be vernacular. I currently have around 1 year of experience so would be an analyst by banking rank. Should I try to push for associate title?
Maybe for added context, this is the AM arm of a BB bank. So I'm thinking 'investment analyst' role and associate title but what do you think?
If it's a BB then it's almost certainly what I described. It's not about role Vs title (that doesn't really make sense), i's that they're flexible with the the exact seniority of who they're hiring. If you're 1 YOE, you're an analyst, no question really. No BB promos to associate in 1 year.
Makes sense - thanks.
Reason for the uncertainty is because I know I am being paid c.30% more base than analyst 1 in the IB. Sure, my bonus will be lower since it's AM but still. For 1 year of FT experience, this seems high and closer to associate level comp.
Yes, that would be high. Very surprising at BLK tbh.
But BB salaries usually standardised at that YOE.
