Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about PIMCO:
Reputation:
Outstanding Reputation: PIMCO is highly regarded in the Fixed Income (FI) Asset Management (AM) space. They are known for their deep research and knowledge, and their active management approach is well-respected.
Culture:
Collaborative Environment: PIMCO values a deep understanding of macroeconomics and world events, and how these affect financial markets. They provide numerous resources and learning opportunities, such as monthly speaker forums featuring top experts.
Learning and Development: They have a strong emphasis on continuous learning, with access to high-profile advisory board members like Ben Bernanke and a former Prime Minister of England.
Compensation:
Base Salary: For an entry-level analyst in London, the base salary is around £55-60k, which is higher than the street average.
Bonuses: PIMCO does give out bonuses to juniors, although the specifics can vary across different roles (account/product/portfolio).
Comparison to Investment Banking (IBD): While the "all in" compensation might not match that of IB, especially in the early years, PIMCO offers very good pay for significantly fewer hours.
Promotion and Career Progression: Promotions are possible, typically requiring an MBA from a top school to reach higher levels like VP. Compensation at the VP level is very competitive.

Active Management: PIMCO focuses on generating alpha through active management, which sets them apart from passive ETF and algorithmic investing.
Work-Life Balance: Compared to IB, PIMCO offers a better work-life balance with fewer hours.

Any specific group you’re interested in? Culture is great collaborative, sharp minds and lots to learn from coworkers. Comp is good not great especially at a junior level. You’re taking a discount for the brand name but once you reach a more senior level VP, SVP and EVP that’s when comp really scales. I believe MBA hires make $200 - 300,000 but it also depends on function they bring you in at i.e product, portfolio management, credit research.
Thanks! I was more so looking at alts/private credit. I also heard they are building out their capital mkts function. Any idea on comp at the VP/SVP/EVP level generally speaking on those teams?
