Sales role at EB AM
I’ve got a summer offer at an elite boutique’s asset-management arm, in a sales role. I’m trying to figure out how limiting that path is.
I like travel, I like meeting people, and I’m genuinely interested in markets and investing. That’s why I applied. But I’m also aware that in IB the ceiling is higher, especially once you get into deal origination where the job becomes partly sales anyway.
I think I’d be good at this AM sales role, but I don’t want to cap my long-term upside. To be direct: I’d like to be in a position to earn around 500k a year before 30, which is more realistic in IB.
TL;DR: Do I take the AM sales path, or get a top business-school master’s and pivot into IB/PE so I can grind early and eventually move into a client-facing senior role without limiting the financial upside?
I guess the real question is: can you realistically hit top-tier comp in institutional or alternatives sales at an EB AM?
I would also really just like to know more about the career progression opportunities and compensation with a rough timeline.
To end I will say the team were also amazing, really nice culture, great environment and not crazy hours.
