Starting as RA at 1tn LO, what can I expect to make?

I've started in a large LO with a base salary of 80k£ out of undergrad.

Should i expect to see my base increasing every year? What would be the average scaling year after year during my junior years (more predictable I guess)?

I haven't asked the question during the interview process as it would not have impacted my decision making.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. Starting Salary: You've mentioned starting with a base salary of £80k out of undergrad, which aligns with the typical range for junior roles in large asset management firms.

  2. Annual Increases: It's common to see base salary increases annually, especially in the early years. For example, in investment banking, typical base compensation for analysts can increase from £85k to £95k and then to £125-140k as they move to associate roles. While this is specific to investment banking, similar trends can be expected in large asset management firms, though the exact figures may vary.

  3. Compensation Progression:

    • Year 1: £80k base
    • Year 2: Potential increase to around £90-95k
    • Year 3: Potential increase to around £105-115k
  4. Bonuses: In addition to base salary, discretionary bonuses are a significant part of compensation. For junior analysts, bonuses can range from 0-100% of the base salary, depending on performance and the firm's overall success.

  5. Long-term Outlook: As you gain more experience and potentially move up the ranks, your compensation can increase significantly. For example, in private equity or hedge funds, it's possible to see substantial increases in compensation tied to performance and PnL responsibilities.

In summary, you can expect your base salary to increase annually, with significant potential for bonuses. The exact figures will depend on your performance and the firm's success, but the trend is generally upward in the early years.
