What is a typical career path for a Tech Analyst in AM?

I graduated with top grades from a top school in Engineering. My goal was originally to get into the front office, but I failed and had to settle for a back office job.

I'm currently working as a Technology Analyst in a highly regarded (imo at least) Asset Management Firm. I was hoping to find out where other people who started with similar jobs are?

My first choice would obviously be to one day break out of BO, though I know this is hard. Do most people end up in BO like me because they failed to get FO? What is a typical Tech Analyst career path like?
