Yale SOM - master's in Asset Management

Hello fellow monkeys,

Starting from this year, Yale SOM will be launching its new master's in asset management.

The master's degree is a new program designed strictly for early career professionals. The content seems to be very up-to-date, teaching modern data-science techniques employed in the field of asset allocation. The program has a great experienced staff and is run under the wing of the school of management (SOM) of Yale. I have a positive view of this new master's as a great stepping-stone towards an analyst career in asset management. However, I have my reservations about this courses as it is brand new.

What are your thoughts?

Regards, MM

If it's data science for asset allocation ( as in selecting weights for asset classes like Small Cap Equities, Large Cap Equities, Long Duration Bonds, etc) - that's likely not very useful as many practitioners don't seem to use scientific techniques for that (AQR might be an exception). If it's more than that - it may be useful. It's probably best to look over the syllabus.

It is a vocational program only taught on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - not sure how valuable that is to you because you could want a true academic experience (in which case not the best) or you may want to work at the same time to pay your tuition (in which case it is great). Yale SOM is a good school.
