AlixPartners out of MBA: NY vs. CHI/Dallas?

I at a top-10 b-school in the midwest and got a full-time offer in AP's Enterprise Improvement practice. I have the flexibility to choose my office. I am international and the goal initially was to be in NYC - but I realized its much more expensive, and has higher taxes (compared to Dallas which has no state tax, and even Chicago, which doesn't have a city tax).

Is NYC worth the extra taxes/cost of living?

NYC is nice, but Chicago for cheaper COL is a really good option. It's still a decently sized, well connected city with plenty to offer. As Hawkeye 79 said, you'll be flown around a lot, so you're only benefiting a little from NYC anyway. Worst case, you should be able to build a strong case for an internal transfer if you do not like it in Chicago.

Do note, however, that the other way around works as well. Might be good to start with NYC before transferring if you're not happy with the situation there. Enjoy the luxury problem!
