Best Way to find Internship Opportunities?
Hey I’m a sophomore at a non target trying to get an internship for this summer. I’ve been applying to consulting/corporate strategy positions on LinkedIn and Handshake but unfortunately no luck so far. I’m thinking about switching my approach and reaching out to people who work at small consulting firms in the area to see if they have any internship opportunities available.
But I would appreciate any advice on A. What kind of internships would be acceptable for consulting recruitment purposes (industry, type of work, company size, etc.). and B. The best way to go about looking for these kind of internships.
I know that I may not have many options considering I’m a non target sophomore looking for a summer internship in mid march so at this point I’m just trying to go for the next best thing, whatever that may be.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
This is one of those rules that no one really tells you about: If you're applying through portals but don't have someone at the recruit table that knows your name, then your odds go down significantly. What you want to do is reach out to people that work at these companies (Alum from your school are best bet, or anyone that you share diversity with) and ask for an informational interview on what it takes to get an internship at that place. At the end of the call/zoom meeting, ask if they'll connect you with a recruiter and then follow up afterwards. Your odds of getting a job will go up tremendously if people know who you are--it's a much easier bet to take.
A) *Rough* Tier list goes like this: Top Management consulting (MBB)>Tier 2 (LEK, OW, EYP, etc.)>Investment banking at top banks/PE internship at top funds>FAANG or other large company corporate strategy>MM/LMM PE or banks AND corporate strategy at F500 but not top (think working at REI vs Apple) AND Unicorn startups (Like Uber before going public)>Engineering/technical internships AND other local startups>Research for school/publishing research>starting your own company>Everything else.
B) Best way to go about looking for those internships is described above, talking with people.
The single most valuable skill that you can develop is the ability to talk to people and have them like/trust you with just a few interaction. That will get you more internship offers than applying to 1,000 different posts on Handshake/LinkedIn.
