Consulting Career Path?

I'm a recent graduate from a top-tier school, and my overall GPA is 3.58. I graduated 2 quarters earlier than my class and have been doing an internship at a mid-size consulting group.

My goal is to become a financial advisory or management consultant at MBB, FTI, or Deloitte. However, I feel a bit lost during these uncertain times. What would be the best strategy to prepare for the future?

Thank you in advance,

I’m based in Europe, so take what I’ll say with a pinch of salt.

A colleague of mine graduated during the last financial crisis, and despite having studied in a “target” school and having sent as many applications as he could (networking is just not a thing in Europe for graduate roles in consulting), he wasn’t able to get a role in consulting.

What he did then was to apply for audit roles at the Big4, where the intake is way larger. After a year or two he was able to move inside his firm from audit to consulting.

Not sure how repeatable this is as this is one data point only, but by the way he described it he told me it’s generally not impossible to change group.
