consulting firms do not have internships people who do get internships are ones whose dad works at the firm or has some kind of connection.
mckinsey does NOT have a summer business analyst bain does not have an associate consultant intern and bcg does not have a summer associate
the only person i know that got into MBB was one who worked at McDonalds during rising senior summer and got experience when advising how to increase burgers deliver efficiency, they were impressed during fall for fulltime recruitment
so overall its almost impossible to get in that is why you rarely hear consulting internships mentioned compared to IBD ones on iBankingOasis
you are giving spruious information.
Summer positions exist ( I have gotten e-mails from MBB on internships) they are just really competitive.
The greatest part of this quote has to be that "associate consultant intern" is exactly the job title that Bain DOES give to its interns, who DO exist.
I can confirm McKinsey Sydney offices does have a very limited summer internship, although it is not advertised. Applications are taken at the same time as graduate apps.
The firms do have consulting internships for undergrad, just very limited. I met a couple kids who did McK and Bain internships, but the programs are very small and usually recruit from a very small number of schools.
I know for a fact that McKinsey and Bain both actively recruit for their summer programs. As mentioned it is extremely competitive, much more so than IB internships but they do exist.
Most people I know who have had an early interest in consulting either did internships in i-banking (which is still attractive to consulting firms) or interned at a boutique consulting firm; you don't have to intern at MBB to work there eventually.
They do have internships, I did one.
The process is EXTREMELY competitive. Simply put, you NEED to be at a target, and, if that, at a TOP one. Basically, try to be at HYPS and Wharton. My intern class was VERY heavily constituted of kids from those colleges.
Is there a consulting equivalent of Wall Street Oasis?
I can tell you that at the very least, Bain and McKinsey have undergrad internships...both have posted on my school's career site already.
Yeah the standards for MBB internships are pretty ridiculous... speaking completely from second-hand knowledge, but I would guess a good guideline would be 3.7+ from HYPSW.
Or GS TMT soph year summer. No joke...
I'm not too worried about HYPS taking a spot over me in the international offices. New York, Boston, San Fran are completely different stories.
Which offices are you looking at? I know that undergrad hires from targets go to the big int. offices all the time.
If you're thinking London, good luck. It's super-competitive for all 3 firms.
I was thinking of offices in countries whose primary language is not English
I'm certain that the major consulting firms do have summer internships. I think they're exclusively for juniors (no equivalent to say a BB sophomore rotational program) and I'm pretty certain that MBB do recruit on my campus for these internships (McK definitely does as I got an email for a presentation they're having the first week of school) That's pretty much the extent of my knowledge about the consulting recruitment process...
The Bain program has been around for several years. Offices generally take on an ACI class that is about 1/3 the size of their first year class. Standards are higher than for regular recruiting, but only because there is less competition for the pool of candidates.
They definitely do have internships. I don't know about McKinsey, but Bain and BCG do recruit at my school for summer associate consulting positions.
My friend, a georgetown grad (and now a full time bainy, or however they spell it) did an internship her junior summer with Bain. In fact, I met about 10 of the other interns (Boston office). Most of them were Yale students, or the equivalent, and everyone was clearly very bright.
you realize the first reply was sarcastic. All the titles mentioned in that first post are correct for summers.
Doesn't Deloitte have one? It's doing a presentation tomorrow at my school. It's called the summer scholars program.
deloitte has one.
I just don't get it...Yes, all global consulting firms have a summer internship
They all have summer internships, and I don't think it is true that you have to go to a top-level target. I go to a large state school, and M/B/B all posted summer internships on our career services board. I know several people who have interviews as well.
most if not all the top consulting firms (and even some non-top 10) have undergrad internships. it's all posted on their websites
Summer internship in consulting?? (Originally Posted: 10/19/2010)
Hello, I am thinking of taking a closer look at consulting as a career option. From the little research I v done, I know that some big consultancies offer summer internship. But I was hoping someone could tell me about internship possibilities? Is it similar to IB where basically all banks are looking to hire interns?
Any input would be appreciated
