Dressing for your MBB interview
Hi friends,
What did you wear to your interviews? This blue collar boy just dropped over 500 bucks on a fancy Italian navy blue suit. Overkill, or necessary for the likes of MBB? I hope it's an investment in a job whose sign-on bonus will help me pay off this puppy...
What should I wear on the plane? If they're flying me to Dubai, will anyone be picking me up?
Any other tips on wardrobe greatly appreciated.
Doesn't matter what kind or brand of suit you wear to an analyst candidate interview, as long as it fits and isn't black or gaudy. So I think you're fine. You'll be needing that suit anyways outside of this particular interview (events, client meetings, recruiting, other interviews, etc.)--so I'd consider it a good life investment.
I'd either wear regular clothes on the plane and change in the airport bathroom, or simply wear your suit (without a tie--put this on in the airport).
At least in the consulting firms I've been in, not much has been said about a candidate's attire (as long as it's normal/conservative). Wouldn't worry about it in MBB either--it's all business casual (at least in the States, not sure in Dubai).
Thanks for this!
use the search function, ton of topics on this subject.
is black really that bad?
when i see some one in black i ask so who died?
I'm no fashion expert, but I did interview (successfully) for a couple years in a black suit, and no one ever batted an eye.
i'm a fan of the black pinstriped suit as well. especially when it's balanced by a bright tie.

Business casual at MBB final round? (Originally Posted: 11/05/2009)
I got an email yesterday from MBB about my final round this Friday. At the end, it says the office has "business casual Fridays so please feel free to wear business casual for the interviews. If you are more comfortable in business attire, that is fine too (but not necessary given the casual nature of the LA Office on Fridays)."
Should I just got with shirt, slacks, and a suit jacket then (argument of subconscious advantage if I look like the other consultants) or stay with suit & tie?
Thanks!
Since it looks like you are asian, I'd go with business casual. Otherwise you'll look like the classic asian overachiever nerd who wears suits and ties to class and to events where its not necessary.
I would go with an excellent suit jacket, shirt, slacks & tie. Above poster has a good point...
Go with the suit + tie.
Worse comes to worse --> you take off the tie and jacket and presto, you're business casual
You always want to look slightly better than the client.
Doesn't matter, they won't ding you cause you wore a suit or you didn't wear business casual on casual Fridays.
Wear suit and tie, take off tie and jacket as needed. I've never seen candidates in bus casual in our office, though west coast offices are a lot more chill when it comes to dress code. Still would be really weird if you happened to come in on a jeans day though...
I'm a girl, so take it FWIW, but I would do a blazer/jacket over dress slacks and a nice shirt, no tie if I were you...
