Help // Questions // Rising Senior

I'm a rising senior at a top 10 university (econ/stat candidate) where all the Big 3 (+LEK, Accenture, Parthenon, CG, etc.) recruit. Just wanted general feedback on how I can prepare for FT recruiting if I don't take a return offer (assuming I receive one).

I'm doing data science at a name-brand firm this summer and staffed on an amazing project for a very, very large corporation (think Dow 30). The problem is that my GPA slid to about a 3.47 this year (which I can round up to a 3.5/4.0) but is still lower than what some of these firms expect. To be fair, I don't go to a grade-inflating Ivy League.

So in this situation, would I still have a good stab at consulting as long as I can do cases well? Need not be Big 3, even Deloitte/Accenture/etc would fly. A little worried because banking is obviously out of the picture at this point, I'm fairly risk averse, and I know my current firm's return offers are exploding.

Any general advice besides practicing cases, networking, etc?

I came from a university that actively grade deflated (and was proud of it), so I understand your frustration.

As long as your school is target, a 3.47 is doable. I believe Deloitte has a 3.3 floor, but I could be mistaken. Econ consulting may be an option, as you have the number crunching profile to back up the 'why'. Network like mad. I'm sure you can make it happen with that background. Good luck!
