Intl Student at Ivy want to get into consulting
I'm a History major at a top Ivy (HYP) with a 3.9 GPA looking to get into Consulting. The problem seems to be that since I'm an International student, I really doubt whether any firm will want to sponsor me for a work Visa. I don't have any good relevant internships either, so I would like to know if it would be easier to get a Consulting job in another country; HK, Singapore, Etc.

And there is no/little consulting business in your country? Do MBBs have offices there?
Are you graduating soon or have a year or two before you do? If the latter, could try and build up some relevant experience to gun for consulting. Or look at part-time internship opportunities (to do during school year).
I'm going to graduate this year. I have two internships as a Software Engineer, but idk if that would be relevant for consulting.
Definitely apply regardless of whether you think it’s relevant or not. Also, consider having some recent grads in consulting or even here on WSO (once you’ve anonymized it enough) to take a look at your resume and re-word your software engineering internships to be more consulting oriented.
Not to Hijack this thread or seem insensitive but I've been increasingly noticing that a lot of Ivy students seem to major in History. Is there any specific reason for this... Is it easier to apply for? Is it genuine interest in History? Mix of Both? Something else?
Unless you are applying to a specific school within a university (e.g. wharton), college major does not influence your chance to get into a university.
However, history majors (and other liberal arts majors) often have an easier time getting higher GPAs (there is grade inflation relative to STEM) .
Thanks for the insight. So you're saying within, say, Wharton a finance and marketing majors will have little difference in "difficulty" of entrance? Same with History and (Any other discipline that falls into whatever bucket history falls into? Perhaps Art History / English / Etc,)
Yeah, it's hard to maintain a good GPA while majoring in STEM; whereas the Humanities are easier. I know a few History majors who went on to do Software Engineering at companies like Google and Microsoft so the major apparently doesn't matter as much as the prestige of the school.
