McK vs BCG in 2025?
How do you see the top dogs in 2025? Did the gap to the top narrow (McK) or do you think it is still as big as it once was?

This question is not specific enough to have an answer, but I’ll try. They remain almost identical, except McKinsey has more brand recognition in the general public and is slightly larger. This has been the case for a while now and hasn’t changed it any meaningful way. They both work on the same type of cases, exit opps are identical, “prestige” is higher at McK, McK is slightly more hardo. In terms of growth and revenue, we can’t say since only BCG has released their figures but no reason to assume much has changed.
In terms of recruiting (which I suspect is the angle of this question), nothing has changed. You should think McK > BCG, but it’s close enough that if you prefer BCG for some reason then you’re not making a mistake.
What do you mean with McK is more hardo? Culture and WLB is def. important consideration for me. Is there the perception in the market that McK is more of a sweatshop/bad culture than BCG or Bain?
Extremely office dependent, but yes that is the general perception. McK > BCG > Bain when it comes to being hardos.
Of course if you are in BCG PIPE or Bain PEG in NY then you are probably gonna be surrounded by more hardos than if you were in McK Seattle
McK has leaner teams on average than BCG, and both have leaner teams than Bain. If lifestyle is a top priority for you, I’d pick BCG over McK.
McK is better for faster progression, faster skill development (as BAs get more responsibility earlier) and overall is better for the top 10% (the latter is my informed opinion, not objective fact).
Still two of the best names you can have on your resume, with McKinsey having the slight edge in reputation. McKinsey is still the face of consulting and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon
We're both better than Bain ;)
I think it’s all group dependent, but you can’t really go wrong with MBB
I had this dilemma when deciding whether to follow through with a McKinsey interview or accept BCG offer. Personally, I went with BCG because the people I talked too seemed nicer, less full of themselves, and I knew more people at BCG. This was personal experience though so you may conclude differently.
From my research, the overall opinion though is that the difference in career prospects/prestige is marginal at best. McKinsey potentially travels more and has potentially quicker career progression.
Did you perceive McK people as more arrogant?
