Re-recruiting one year out of undergrad
To put it simply— struck out on consulting recruitment this year but I am planning on applying again next year just because I’ve already built a network of connections for referrals and thought I might just try again.
But give me the hard truth, how feasible is this? I still don’t know what I’ll be doing in the next year (might be grad school, might be research or anything really) so if you have any advice on that, I’d really appreciate it too. Thanks!

Re-recruiting for consulting one year out of undergrad is definitely feasible, but it requires a strategic approach. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s what you need to know:
Timing and Strategy: Waiting more than the minimal 6 months to reapply is often recommended. Firms tend to hire fewer people during off-cycle periods, which increases the likelihood of rejection. Aim for the next full recruiting cycle to maximize your chances.
Networking: Leverage the network you’ve already built. Continue to nurture those connections and expand them further. Networking is critical, as it can help you secure referrals and gain insights into the firms’ hiring processes.
Resume and Experience: Use the next year to strengthen your profile. Consider roles that align with consulting skills, such as research, strategy, or analytical positions. Volunteer consulting projects, case competitions, or even grad school can also add value to your resume.
Case Prep: Keep your interview skills sharp. Resources like Case in Point and Case Interview Secrets are highly recommended. Regular practice will ensure you’re ready when the time comes.
Grad School Option: If you’re considering grad school, aim for programs that are strong feeders into consulting. An MBA or a specialized master’s program can provide another pathway into the industry.
Feasibility: Many candidates successfully reapply and land offers, but it’s crucial to show growth and improvement since your last application. Firms will want to see how you’ve addressed any gaps or weaknesses.
In summary, re-recruiting is absolutely possible, but it requires a focused plan to enhance your profile, maintain your network, and prepare thoroughly for the next cycle. Good luck!

:( sorry to hear man.
This is not really feasible at all during normal times. Make no mistake. Yes, this happened all the time during the COVID boom, but that economy is gone. MBB is aggressively pushing for CTLs, let alone recruiting laterals.
Having said that— WHY do you want to go MBB? Is it a pride and prestige thing (which not to villainize, we all do that)? Is it because you want to be a life long consultant ? Exit to PE?
Having been out of college for a number of years and working at MBB, it’s easy to think of it as some mythical promise land. But it’s a little overrated. Yes, PE is probably the only path here where you’re at a bit of a disadvantage to your MBB peers at a T2, but people also overestimate how easy it is to get PE from consulting. All other exits should basically be similar (heck I know people from Econ consulting that have cooler exits than some MBB ppl).
If you want to be a career consultant , would just recommend getting an MBA in a few years and rerecruiting or lateraling over later on .
Edit : I misread your post at first and assumed that you already had a job for next year at a T2.
Do you think T2 in OPs situation is attainable?
OP here— my problem with T2s and boutiques is that I require sponsorship (am on here on an F1 visa with the 3 year OPT) so I was ineligible for a lot of jobs and MBB was my only solid option
what will be your role/experience when you apply? im curious
might be going to get my masters or doing research in a hospital
