Advice re. commercial banking exits and future goals
Hello all,
I tried super hard to get into anything capital markets last year doing the whole shebang- Networking, informational calls, etc. But in the end after countless coffee chats and job applications, when I got 2 different company technical interviews I was so excited that I forgot what I studied, f'd up, and made myself look like a fool. I am really sad now bc my friends got into a bunch of great programs and I didn't...I am a Junior now and know that my efforts are better spent somewhere more attainable. I am sorry for my rant.
This year I am applying for things that are less hyper competitive.
Currently interviewing rn for a role in commercial banking internships. I haven't had much luck with any big bank applications but have had some success with small banks.
what can I do after a stint(1-3yrs) in commercial banking credit analysis.
Where do I go from here? I am thinking about a top MBA(will probably change banks later) and pivoting to private credit/direct lending/real estate?
Also are there other areas of finance that are not as extremely competitive as IB?

CB is an awesome career but you won’t get rich. WLB is great- wouldn’t trade it for the world. I am CB in Tier 18 city. PM me if you would like I’d be happy to offer any guidance as a way to pay it forward for all those that have helped me. Good luck.
