Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and tips for your first-round interview at TD Securities CIB Credit:

  1. Understanding Credit Analysis:

    • In CIB Credit, you essentially work as a credit analyst alongside senior credit bankers. Your role involves analyzing deals where the bank uses its balance sheet to contribute to facilities like acquisition financing, revolving credit facilities, and term loans.
    • You’ll also perform annual reviews of the portfolio of companies assigned to you. This includes monitoring their financial health and ensuring compliance with covenants.
  2. Key Skills to Focus On:

    • Financial Statement Analysis: Be comfortable with analyzing income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
    • Debt and Leverage: Understand the role of debt in corporate finance, typical leverage levels in the industry, and how covenants work.
    • Credit Modeling: Familiarize yourself with building credit models, spreading debt comps, and analyzing financial statements. This is especially relevant for high-yield or distressed credit.
    • Relative Value Approach: For credit-focused roles, pitching trade ideas based on relative value is a common task. This involves comparing securities to identify mispricings or opportunities.
  3. Interview Preparation:

    • Expect a mix of technical and behavioral questions. For technicals, you might be asked to walk through a financial statement, explain how you would assess a company’s creditworthiness, or discuss the impact of interest rate changes on credit markets.
    • Behavioral questions could include scenarios like "When did you take a risk?" or "How do you prioritize tasks under pressure?"
  4. Additional Tips:

    • If you’re new to credit, start by reviewing public comp credit agreements and reading through them to understand covenants and terms.
    • Practice explaining complex financial concepts in simple terms, as this will be crucial when discussing your analysis with clients or senior team members.

Good luck with your interview!
