Advice for incoming ER Associate
Hi all - I’m starting an Equity Research role at a middle market IB next week. I’d love to get some advice on setting myself up for success and contributing as best as I can, especially at a new firm.
Some background: 24YO graduated from a non-target. Started in a back office wealth management role at a large bank. After a year, got asked to join a middle office strategy role. Six months later got laid off and eventually landed the ER Associate role in NYC.
Starting as an Equity Research (ER) Associate is an exciting opportunity, and setting yourself up for success early on is crucial. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s how you can hit the ground running:
1. Master the Fundamentals
2. Be Proactive in Learning
3. Network Within the Firm
4. Focus on Deliverables
5. Leverage Exit Opportunities
6. Stay Resilient
Good luck in your new role! If you have more specific questions, feel free to ask.
