Attaching Old Stock Pitch on Job Posting
Does attaching an old research note considered bad form? I have a few that are 6 months old ( and the returns have come out decent 20-30%). Of course I don't care about the returns in the ST, but I don't have time to write new ones right now and wanted to use them in applying for jobs. Will people look at negatively?
coke bump
Are they a customer already? Could you just refer them to the name of the research? (This is assuming you are sell-side)
If you were buyside I’d be very careful because there could be firm-level or group-level inferences in your note that are protected IP (Eg the note could hint at your group’s investment process)
No, I'm trying to break into ER, not in the industry yet. I'm asking whether attaching old stock analyses with a job application or a cold email would be worse than not attaching anything.
I would take it positively, but I have no idea if that’s the norm. I like that someone is excited enough about the industry to get their hands dirty. I value attitude the most since much of the job is really not that hard or complex. But if your pitch sucks, it would rub me the wrong way. And it’s not about the return that the stock produced, it’s about the insights in your report. Equity research (sell-side) is less about picking stocks and more about helping buyside pick stocks.
Cool, thanks. I know that it's not about the returns since even if it had positive returns, it could have been for the wrong reasons. I am working on a few new ones but in the meantime I just wanted to use some of the old ones that I thought had good work in it, but didn't want it to be a turn off
