Can someone please explain whats going on??
Ive been interning for a sell side firm and could really use some advice. Ive been there for 3 months and have dealt with loads of problems.
-
First, Im poorly compensated. The firm I work for pays a stipend of $100 a day and after working 14 hours a day, paying for parking and lunch… It ends up being nothing.

I was told by my analyst when starting that his associate is becoming an analyst creating the opportunity for me to replace him. However, there is no communication at all, he doesn’t respond to email, doesn’t provide me with feedback, doesn’t give me any guidance for what he wants me to do, so I have no idea how I am performing. Nonetheless, I still update maintenance models, write plenty of reports, keep him updated on trends, but i hear no feedback. I consistently show up 2 hours earlier than anyone at the firm and leave approximately an hour later. However, I feel that no one can tell and theres no recognition of work.
-Furthermore, what serious confuses me is when I ask him if they plan on fully pursuing me. He responds with were still seeing, but then sends me to a conference to network in our coverage industry. No other intern touches models, goes to events, or puts in the level of work I do and i’m just confused on whats going on and what to do.
- Im seriously not trying to complain, but i never understood the principle of “culture” until this job. The office is a ghost town, no one talks at all, i’m the only extrovert, and theres no communication. Can anyone give me guidance on what to do or explain any of this?
Sounds like a tough scene, curious to hear thoughts from those working. Wish I could help
Hey not sure exactly what you should do but hopefully the situation gets better for you soon. What are your potential options?
Unfortunately i don’t have any other options. I’ve tried reaching out to network, however, each firm wants 3 years of experience and “Harvard University” attached to your resume. Im facing headwinds as I dont know many individuals in ER. Nonetheless, Im going to keep trying. Eventually someone will find value in my work ethic and take a shot on me.
I hear you. Hopefully some options can come your way soon. Good luck. Wishing you all the best
Doesn't sound like a firm / analyst you should work for full-time.
No dont get me wrong, hes very well known in his coverage and he is very intelligent. I just wish I was compensated properly and given more feedback
If he doesn't make you better, you are better off rolling with someone who could make you better and manages ppl well (though most analysts are bad managers).
