Pretty much 0 chance because a candidate has no deal experience.
Seen this happen a handful of times from my grad class
A few were in TMT and moved to a tech-related PE fund
I recently turned down an offer for PE coming from an ER background. Would say it is only doable under special circumstances. i.e. you have a connection at the firm, maybe had relevant experience prior to ER, are working in a specific industry that gives you an edge, etc. and likely need more than one of these working in your favor.
Odds are much better at growthier shops than typical LBO PE where you will always lose to the banker.
Can I ask why you turned it down?
Ultimately I didn't want to be in a transaction oriented role which is a big reason for why I prefer public to private equity. I was able to get a better offer for a public equity buyside role and went with that instead
I see. Thanks for your response. If i may ask what aspects of transaction oriented work made you turn it down?
