Financial modeling for research
Hey everyone, this is my first post so bear with me.
I am in the process of switching careers and am currently studying for the June CFA level 1 (I am getting started early). I have a few friends that work in fixed income trading. They said that the ability to construct financial models on excel is pretty much a necessity. I have experience using statistical programs like SPSS, SAS and STATA, but not much with excel.
Does anyone have any recommendations for books or stand-alone classes that teach financial modeling? I’ve found a ton of books on the topic but I don’t know which ones are any good. The only professional training I’ve found is through Euromoney, which is not an option since they don’t offer seminars in my area. If I go down the training route I would like to use whatever option is most respected in the industry.

I did the 3-day financial modelling boot camp from Wall Street Prep as my intro. I found it very useful and it's relatively inexpensive (the instructors are also top notch). Hopefully they're doing a session near you.

Thank you so much for the input! My location (Metro Detroit) is not on the boot camp rotation (no surprise there). Do you know anyone that used the self-study financial modeling packages? They are also through Wall Street Prep. They have $499 and $199 options. I am going to guess the $499 option is not worth it.
