I messed up, need advice on what to do

Hi All,

So I recently interviewed and got a research position at a BB, and I had CFA level 2 candidate on my online application because I was going to take the lvl 1 test (I submitted my app a couple months back). I know I am stupid. However I never took the test and now I got this job offer. Do you know if they can actually check if I passed that level in the background check? I didn't put it on my resume if that matters. I guess my options are:

  • decline the offer

  • talk to HR

  • just go through with the process

Any advice would me much appreciated.

They cannot verify on their own whether you've passed the level 1 or not. They would have to ask you directly for proof.

That being said if the CFA institute finds out you did this, they will likely sanction you to some degree. Possibly 1 year ban from taking the exams or a lifetime ban. As to whether they'd notify your employer, im not sure, however the institute does post disciplinary actions publicly to their website.
