Investor Relations to Equity Research (Need HELP ASAP)

I am in a little bit of a situation and would like some thoughts.
I am currently an Audit Associate at a small firm of about 100 people in London. I've started doing the ACA (CPA) and passed my first exam. However, I absolutely HATE audit and the thought of going to work to do Audit just melts my soul. Also do not like doing the ACA either.
I've always wanted to get into the investment industry and that's the reason I went university. I'm about 26 and do not want to waste my life away in Audit. I really want to be an equity research analyst or something along those lines.
I've recently been offered an interview for a position called "investor relations operations analyst." This is with boutique hedge fund (about 30 people) who's main focus is on options investing. They will also fund my CFA (which is what I'm interested in).
Job description has the following: -Preparation of monthly reports and marketing material, including data analysis, for investors and potential clients. -Database maintenance including maintenance of investor records, performance information and other fund information within the client relationship management system. -Preparing ad hoc reports and information requests. -Assisting with organisation of educational conferences, including preparation of conference materials, registration of attendees and other administrative tasks. -Work closely with other internal teams and interact with service providers. -Ad hoc tasks as required.
Do you guys think this is a good move for me in terms of getting an entry level role within Equity research in the future? Or is it better to stay in Audit?
No, it doesn't have anything to do with financial statement analysis or assessing the fundamentals of a business.
But do you think it will be a better opportunity than audit as I'll be surrounded by investment professionals and do the CFA?
No
I'd argue a lot of equity research doesn't involve assessing the fundamentals of a business.
So you'd say that the investor relations role is a better opportunity than staying in audit?
IR at a hedge fund is fundraising and marketing. IR at a public corporate (on a good team) is more akin to ER, although it’s kind of like ER lite. Much easier to go from the second to ER than the first - as others have said, IR at a hedge fund has no relevancy to ER.
I get this, but what relevance does Audit have to ER? I'm sure that sifting through invoices and matching bank statements with purchase orders has no relevance to ER either. I would assume that the IR role will give more opportunity to get into ER than Audit. What's your thoughts on this?
I think you should go for it. CFA is great & you'll meet contacts at your new job to help you move to ER
