Sell Side ER College Project

I am embarking on a 6 month long project where I am a acting as a sell side equity research analyst and working with my team to pitch a stock recommendation to a BB ER team in NYC. I am looking for guidance on what type of company I should choose so I don’t run into a lot of trouble finding comparables, creating the dcf, and making an accurate valuation.

Some things I’ve been thinking about: Company with 1-3 lines of revenue Domestic suppliers (minimal tariff headwind) Avoiding financials, energy, utilities Looking at consumer discretionary and staples.

Companies that come to mind are Walmart,O’Reilly Auto Parts, Chillis.

Curious to hear anyone’s feedback

O'Reilly Automotive is actually an excellent choice for your project. Clean business model, strong comparable set (AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, NAPA), predictable cash flows, and defensive characteristics. Auto parts retail is easier to model than many sectors and you won't get bogged down in complex accounting issues like you might with other industries.
