Would your job be easier/better without quarterly earnings?

Trump today proposed a possible change to earnings season: reporting earnings only twice a year, instead of four.

Would eliminating quarterly earnings make your job easier/better/more enjoyable? Or do you like the excitement of earnings season?

It would free up a massive amount of time. At the same time, I’m torn as to if I think it would make misses better or worse. On one hand, if a company misses half-year estimates, it’s probably going to be an even bigger miss than just a quarter would be (and cause a massive stock decline). On the other hand, maybe there would be fewer “timing” related misses and would give the business a chance to rebound from a weak month or two.

Ultimately, I think I would like it, but I have a feeling companies would just increase their communication with the street about guidance, so I’m not sure how much it would actually improve my job. I guess I’m neutral.
