Business Attire in Non-IB Industries Comparison?

Hi,

I'm kind of curious as to how business fashion differs (if at all) in other jobs such as corporate finance, accounting, etc. Based on what I've read, it seems like suits should be navy blue, grey, charcoal, or black w/ pinstripes, conservative ties, and dress shirts that are usually blue/white (from what I understand, other colors are generally not preferred...care to confirm?). Do you think that these norms are true for other industries as well, or are they generally more lax about what to wear in terms of colors and all?

I cannot imagine how anyone got the idea that it was OK to wear a black suit. It really isn't. Especially black with pinstripes. You will look like you are in the mafia (all those costumes of old-timey gangsters they sell at Halloween stores always have black with pinstripes), or an NBA player, or someone equally as stupid-looking.

Hi, Eric Stratton, rush chairman, damn glad to meet you.

I'm with you on wearing a solid black suit, but anything with pinstripes is badass. That means that black w/ pinstripes are ok in my book.

For some reason, I have the idea in my head that anything with pinstripes makes the suit look less formal. Maybe it's because a solid black suit looks like it should be worn to a funeral. But what do I know, I'm just the guy who occasionally rocks black pinstripe suits to work.
