2+ recruiters 2+ positions same company QUANT

Hey guys,

I know recruiters place a lot of emphasis on asking wether I had been introduced to a company in the past 6 months. And if you say yes they will not put you forward on another role.

Now I think this is a bit unfair because: 1) recruiters generally don’t know what they are doing. They might submit your cv even if you don’t satisfy the requirements. Sometimes they don’t even know the pm or the role. they are fishing at your expense 2) each recruiter might not have all mandates open at the company 3) for MMs in particular I think different pods and areas of the business are very siloed and interviewing with one should not preclude you from interviewing with another 4) openings at the same company in different areas of the business happen with frequency much higher than every 6 months

Given the above, while applying I would just not care about their 6 months clause and if I get a job at a different pod with a different recruiter after a month I’ll just let the recruiters fight for the money.

Do you guys agree? Have you had similar?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

Key Points on Recruiter Practices and Multiple Applications:

  1. Recruiter Competence:

    • Recruiters may sometimes submit your CV without fully understanding the role or requirements, which can be frustrating and counterproductive.
  2. Limited Mandates:

    • Each recruiter might not have access to all open positions within a company, leading to missed opportunities if you rely on just one recruiter.
  3. Siloed Business Areas:

    • In many companies, especially middle-market firms, different pods or areas operate independently. Interviewing for one area should not necessarily preclude you from opportunities in another.
  4. Frequent Openings:

    • Openings in different areas of the same company can occur more frequently than every six months, making the six-month rule seem restrictive.

Strategy:

  • Ignore the Six-Month Clause:
    • Given the above points, it might be beneficial to disregard the six-month clause. If you secure a job through a different recruiter in a different pod, let the recruiters handle any disputes over commissions.

Community Insights:

  • General Opinion:
    • Many in the WSO community share the sentiment that the six-month rule is unfair and restrictive. They advocate for a more flexible approach to maximize job opportunities.

Conclusion:

  • Practical Approach:
    • Focus on securing the best role for yourself. If that means applying through multiple recruiters for different positions within the same company, so be it. The recruiters can sort out their issues independently.

This approach aligns with the experiences and advice shared by the WSO community, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing your career opportunities over restrictive recruiter practices.

Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

I don’t blame the recruiter. Why would they want to do all of this work only for another recruiter to get $50k-$100k for the work he did to place you? The recruiters know the rules setup by firms so they are doing their job within those parameters.

For this very reason, don’t work with multiple recruiters. Only switch recruiters after several months of no success. Plus some recruiters are shady as hell. I’ve heard horror stories of recruiters selling out job seekers to their current/future employer if they find out you’re going to take a different job pushed by another recruiter.
