2026 Graduate stock pitch

Hi all,

I'm a second year student at a target, and I'd like to intern at a L/S or long-bias hedge fund this summer. I have a decent amount of experience with fundamental analysis and stock picking. I believe I can positively contribute to streamlining research and daily workflow in general, of a PM or analyst.

I have been running my own Long-bias book for the past year on IBKR, and I have currently achieved a 57% cumulative alpha return. (See picture attached)

If anybody is interested, let me know and I'll share a stock pitch to show how I think about individual names, along with my CV.

Thanks

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key points to consider when preparing and sharing your stock pitch for hedge fund recruiting:

  1. Structure Your Pitch Effectively:

    • Introduction: Briefly explain the business, its competitors, and key industry metrics.
    • General Recommendation: Clearly state if it's a long or short position and the time frame.
    • Why Now: Highlight what makes the stock attractive at this moment (e.g., catalysts, market mispricing).
    • Thesis: Lay out your investment thesis in 3-4 concise bullet points, focusing on growth, margins, and quality relative to peers.
    • Valuation: Include current valuation metrics (e.g., forward P/E, EV/EBITDA) and your target price with a clear rationale.
    • Catalysts: Identify specific events or developments in the next 6-18 months that could drive the stock's performance.
  2. Differentiate Your View:

    • Explain how your perspective differs from the consensus and why your view is correct. This is critical to stand out in hedge fund interviews.
  3. Demonstrate Investment Thinking:

    • Show a deep understanding of what drives value in the company and the industry. Be prepared to discuss qualitative and quantitative factors.
  4. Tailor to the Fund's Strategy:

    • Research the fund's investment philosophy and ensure your pitch aligns with their style (e.g., long-term fundamental, short-term tactical).
  5. Highlight Your Track Record:

    • Your 57% cumulative alpha return is impressive. Be ready to discuss your process, risk management, and lessons learned from your IBKR portfolio.
  6. Keep It Concise:

    • Hedge fund professionals value brevity. Avoid overloading your pitch with unnecessary details; focus on the key points that support your thesis.

Hi,

That is the number for just return.

I re-calculated alpha a couple of days ago and it was around 29%.

Assuming the MSCI global equities as a benchmark return, a 4-5% risk free rate, and the beta of my portfolio, at around 1.3.
