Activist macro funds (I.e. James Bond villain)
At any point in history, we’re there ever activist macro funds? Imagine something like the och ziff credit scandal could be an example of what I’m talking about. Rates/commodities traders meddling in foreign affairs/politics to support an investment position? (likely in emerging markets)
Soros shorting Sterling was activist macro
Didn't he also destroy some SEA currency
Yes, think it was Thai Bhat.
What do you mean destroy. Like physically reducing the money supply or shorting the currency to oblivion.
Elliot & others sued Argentina & won not long ago.

That was a wild ride. Thankyou
Perhaps the only “macro” fund related is bracebridge. They do rates RV.
Yep, essentially a litigation-focused strategy (it's actually a thing). Similar to funding third party lawsuits for equity stake etc
Macro will return as it's a cyclical business. Benefits from higher rates/more macro volatility. Obviously I'm biased (see header) but I couldn't imagine doing anything else.
Generally investors now prefer their funds to diversify internally (multistrat) and not take concentrated positions. That being said, all it takes is a few 50+% years from a Rokos or an Odey equivalent to get people interested again (especially if broader markets trade sideways)
Doing IBD M&A, but having a pure economics degree, which manuals/books/courses would you recommend me to get a foot in the industry? I guess a book on options?
