Can you make money??? thats literally the answer man. Everyone on this forum needs to wake up and realize hedge funds are a solved game...we are providing investment solutions for our LP's (typically uncorrelated public portfolios). The better the solution the more capital will want to deploy into it, some of the best "Economics" come from otherwise simple but repeatable strategies, a good friend of mine runs his own shop with over 3B AUM charging 2.0% and 35%. He is absurdly successful and obviously quite well off (has ran for over 5 years) to be candidly honest he isn't the smartest guy i've met but god does he know how to make money in his space. His pitch to LP's is simple, Im good at making money, have an amazing track record and frankly am very uncorrelated to any other strategy you'll see. The most successful guy I know manages in the high 11 figures range for Fidelity, frankly right place right time and no one else can do his job, no one gets these jobs in LO and theres less than 50 guys running this type of money/influence (They frequently yell at management of companies we use in our daily lives and management listens). In answering your 1,2,3 questions to be frank going into a pod this young means you are taking an implicit bet on your team and individual ability...I highly recommend finding your edge. Mine for instance has been arbitraged out but set me up for retirement at 42, it was relatively simple and repeatable as well. Anyways in this market the answer is PU&I long/short with duration at a SM >1B, not a pod since the factors and risk model will limit your drawdown capacity which as a young investor removes learning. Learn to ask better questions as well, it serves your career and relationships more than anything else.
