Best opportunistic credit shops in LA?

For context, I’m a 1st year analyst in RX in NYC but want to move to LA after I’m done with my 2nd year here.

Curious to hear people’s thoughts on comp/culture/career trajectories at the following places and which ones I should try to target:

  1. Ares Special Opportunities Fund
  2. Beach Point Multi-Asset/Opportunistic Credit
  3. Canyon Partners
  4. Oaktree Special Sits/Global Opportunities

Have heard ASOF and Oaktree SS have good returns, not sure on others but would be curious if anyone else has some info

L42 looks super cool on paper but has no return history and is like 6 months old. Should not be on list…. At least yet

To be fair this is more flagging who is in LA.  I think if I had head to head, I'd rather take on an associate 1 gig there though vs. a couple of the others mentioned.    You basically are buying into the launch team which has former head of Oaktree NA Opps, former head of Apollo Hybrid Value, both reporting into Scott Graves . . .  Probably as de-risked as it gets for someone with "no" return history with a bunch of AuM growth potential and ability to move up to VP / Principal.

Thoughts on PIMCO? Heard mixed things on comp assuming this is Dan Degtyar’s group

PIMCO the firm that all of us can't get in muahaha, same with Ares. They had 1000+ summer and junior level applicants last rotation. God save us all
