Career Advice for a MM IB Analyst

Would love to hear some peoples thoughts on my situation. I am currently a 2nd year analyst at a MM investment bank outside of NYC. The goal has always been to move to the hedge fund space, specifically in NYC. I have not made a much headway with cold emailing the big headhunters (Dynamics / SearchOne) and the ones that reach out to me are all for PE or corp dev opportunities.

My bank is regionally well known (no brand recognition in the northeast) and has good placement to MM PE shops, especially in our region, but that is not the case for hedge funds. I know of one former analyst who has successfully placed into a hedge fund but he had to lateral to a bigger bank before he started gaining traction with headhunters / getting interviews.

Strategies I am considering: 1. Continue reaching out to HH / networking 2. Shift my focus to lateraling to a better known bank or at least one in NYC to make recruiting easier

Any input would be appreciated. Brief background on me: Top 20 UG business school (Bloomberg), 3.78 GPA, 170 LSAT, Varsity Athlete (Division 1), PWM summer internship
