Consulting to Long Only HF
I work in strat consulting and I was wondering how likely is a move to a long only HF or equity research buyside? I've been investing on my personal account and I'm so hooked. I'm based in Europe

^^ This guy doesn't seem as helpful. I would say it's possible but difficult to come straight from consulting. An easier path is often MBB --> PE --> HF. With that said, I personally went from MBB to a HF (know it's not long only) but given the long-bias focus of my fund, it's in the same vein imo
Another path would be to go to sell side research for ~2 years in a sector of your choice.
Would I have to take a salary cut? Can I move to associate level without having done a MBA?
ER ranks are different than IB. You start as an Associate, then VP, the you start getting your own coverage (around 3-4 yrs into the role) if you wish. Most people leave ER by then though.
Depending on the type of shop you are at and what sector you're in, you could be making ~150k all in your first year. Hot sectors are something like Tech and Biotech. Associate roles open up less frequently than IB analyst roles. Do your networking and something well come through
