DE Shaw Fundamental Analyst
Based on my research I have a decent idea of what this role is about. Seems a lot like a central research the way it’d be in a LO or basically an internal sell-side research shop. What I’m curious about is does anyone have insight on if people can move from the fundamental analyst role into an investment role. If that’s not possible internally, how does the street view this type of role? What are the exit opps?
This sounds like a bad role if you want to be an investor. Don’t let the DE Shaw name (which isn’t even that good for fundamental stuff), lure you in. It sounds like one of those jobs where you produce lots of research and get no credit.
Seems like you're basically a glorified desk analyst
How many YOE do you have? These dead end buyside research roles are great for LSD YOE with a hardcore diminishing returns cliff as you get more experienced and move your way up. Generally speaking, within 2-4 YOE on sell-side or 2+2 and never having worked at a large institutional fund, I’d say it’s worth checking out. Anyone more experienced than that can probably get a chair elsewhere
I am in that range of YOE. Ideal would be 2-3 years in that role and then move internally to a risk taking position if they offer that path. How do you think external opportunities view this type of role? Is it looked down upon?
