Doctorate in Accounting for Hedge Funds Focused on Value Investing
There are hedge funds focused on a value-oriented investment approach based on rigorous fundamental analysis. My understanding is that some hedge funds actively recruit PhDs in Finance from the top business schools. Would the research and analysis skills acquired in a Doctorate in Accounting program, including the ability to thoroughly analyze the latest research in leading finance-oriented publications and strong data analytics skills, be a useful skill set for a value-oriented hedge fund? There is a lot of finance in the dissertation of a reputable Doctorate in Accounting if one elects that option for those not familiar with these programs.

Useless. If HF hires PhD, they gonna hire PhD in Math/Physics/CompSci. PhD in Finance/Accounting is just for academia.
The only niche where it has some sort of value-added is activist short selling HF where some forensic accounting, but that will never beat candidates with IB+PE background for those types of funds.
It’s quite unfortunate to hear - especially for those who don’t have the quant background but would like to pursue higher levels of education (outside the realm of the MBA).
Conveniently forgetting AQR?
AQR.... "applied quantitative research".... I wonder what the Phds at AQR specialize in, especially while the rest of the industry hires Phds for quant work....
Mostly joking, but 99% of academic hires there are related to quant work. Maybe a few will publish papers / study there on a contractual basis and do more broad based fundamental work, but it is not anywhere close to fundamental research work you would see at a typical equity l/s fund - I highly highly doubt anyone there has an advanced degree in accounting doing fundamental equity investing....
