Equity Associate vs Global Macro Execution Trader?
So quick question regarding career path and opportunity.
I've recently graduated from an undergraduate program and was fortunate enough to receive offers from two funds on different sides of the front office. I am looking for someone to speak to the different career paths and exit opportunities of each.
Option 1: working as the junior trader at a start up global macro fund. The strategy itself is interesting and the team has stressed that they are looking to train someone as the fund grows.
Option 2: working as an equity analyst at a value based fund that is significantly less aggressive. This position also offers similar mentorship opportunities, but the fund does not have the same growth potential as the start up.
As far as size and pay, both funds are less than $500m and pay the same. The decision seems to surround desired career path, so if someone could give a bit of information on that as well as speak to the opportunities to jump between analysis and trading, it would be greatly appreciated.
Those are entirely different roles, surely you have an idea of what you are generally more interested in?
I'm more interested in trading, but long term, I think that equity analysis could be have more security and exit opportunities.
