Hedge Fund Research
I was wondering if there was a way to research the performance of different hedge funds. I know most are privately held so they don't put out a lot of public information. But if a fund-of-funds group were to do a beta-based asset allocation for building an alpha core, how would they go about finding out the beta of the hedge funds performance?
op ate monkey shit so i assume its a troll
There is some data for specific funds out there compiled by various private banks and industry groups but for the most part it's jealously guarded (the compilers are not supposed to/don't want to distribute that to the public) and isn't necessarily comprehensive.
There are also various hedge fund indices compiled by different trackers (HFRNI is one) but the constituents are only those who are transparent enough for them to get the data, so they're largely made up UCITS funds that may or may not be reflective of the sponsor's core fund performance.
Not sure how much info your going to find on the websites in terms of holdings. It should list them according to strategy, assets, adjusted for risk measures (e.g. Sharpe, beta)
