HF analyst interviews (USA, 2023): Send "Thank You" email notes?
Context:
Analyst interviews with Equity HFs in America
Question(s):
Send "Thank You" notes, yes or no? [EDIT: to clarify, I mean email notes, not physical ones]
If yes, to everyone and after each round (BD / analysts / PMs / management / etc.)?
If yes, even if you have to look up or guess their email address (no direct channel before the interview)?
Why I'm asking?
I assumed that, given HF folks are generally "low BS", they wouldn't care much about formalities (or even judge you negatively). But maybe I'm totally off. I know that in IBD, people can care a lot, and many HF people come from IBD. Curious what you think, especially professionals who are directly involved in interview processes themselves (on either side).
Thank You (pun intended)!
No thank you notes are weird. Follow-up one or two times max via email if you haven't heard anything. If the HF likes you they will be in touch, if not then you were axed.
Just to confirm, do you mean a or b?
a) "No, thank you notes are weird."
b) "No thank you notes are weird."
I assume you meant (A)?
Re/ follow-ups: does the generic "first follow-up is appropriate after ~5 biz days" rule apply here? Thank you.
Thought you were referring to physical written thank you notes. I would just send a casual followup email after an interview saying enjoyed meeting you, let me know if there is anything else you need from my end.
I used to not send them. I think it’s important to now. Obviously email only.
Got it, then I might have been wrong. Thought it was weird, especially if you never officially received the interviewers' email addresses, because BD was coordinating the process and served as the single point of contact. (However, I get that email addresses can be guessed trivially, so they probably wouldn't find it creepy.)
I find it weirder when, knowing email addresses can be guessed trivially, a candidate emails hr to ask for interviewer emails
