HF Recruiting Lately
Coming from PE, interview volume for L/S HFs over the last couple of quarters isn't as robust as I thought it would be. I've received some opportunities with SMs and MMs, though MM seats are few and far between and the communication is so spotty even in late stages of the process. Curious if folks have creative ways of "sourcing" their own interviews i.e. cold reachouts via linkedin, email, etc.? Does it actually work i.e. is it possible without headhunters? My cold outreach has received 0 responses so far, so I am curious how to improve hit rate
I work at T1 LO and I used to receive a lot of inbounds from HH and hedge funds.
Since February, things are very slow and even getting intro calls with BD is a tough task.
I’m interested to know if this is me or just a slower market for recruiting.
feels like a slower market but curious if others agree
It's the same for me too (also at a LO)...
Start of the year was pretty active both from HH and online apps on the credit side. Slowed down significantly in late march/april for me, but it has picked up since earlier this month and have seen/received a handful of quality interviews. I’ve focused solely on SMs/non MM platforms
At a well known SM looking at other L/S SMs, was getting good inbounds and high quality interviews in Feb/March, post liberation day things seem to have slowed down significantly. Curious if others have had the same experience.
The market is flooded with very qualified people who are looking or have got fired post March (note: I say well qualified - not necessarily good investors)
If you're sending out cold emails, you absolutely need to include a writeup with an investment idea. The more relevant you make it to the style/focus of the fund you're contacting, the higher your chances of getting a response.
makes sense, thanks for the push
Depends on your coverage ... if TMT/consumer, it's probably fine. I've also seen some Industrials and Pharma openings.
But in my coverage, it's been pretty much dead since Mid-March. Just no seats being advertised.
Fair to assume your coverage is HC?
I'm at a LO, and interviews have really dropped off post-liberation day. I had one firm pull a position completely due to market volatility. When I am rejected after interviews, the only negative feedback I get is that there are people with more experience. The market seems brutal right now.
Does anyone know how MM hiring has been, both on the senior and junior level, post-liberation day?
