Lowest Possible Standardized Score and GPA for Multi Managers
I have a >1400 SAT (lower than 1500) score, 4.0 from target in Econ. Idk if that disqualifies me from these ultra competitive shops.
Would it? Might sound ridiculous to some folks but with how competitive these spots are idek myself
Based on the most helpful WSO content, ultra-competitive multi-manager shops often prioritize candidates with exceptional academic and standardized test credentials, especially for roles in investment management or hedge funds. While your SAT score is below 1500, your 4.0 GPA from a target school in Economics is a significant strength.
Generally, these shops look for a combination of factors, including: 1. Strong Academic Performance: Your 4.0 GPA from a target school is a major advantage and demonstrates intellectual capability. 2. Standardized Test Scores: While a score above 1500 might be ideal, your score above 1400 is still competitive, especially when paired with your GPA. 3. Relevant Experience and Skills: Internships, technical skills (e.g., Python, financial modeling), and certifications (e.g., CFA, SIE) can further bolster your profile. 4. Networking: Building connections within the industry can sometimes outweigh minor gaps in standardized test scores.
Your profile is strong overall, and while the SAT score might not be at the absolute top tier, it is unlikely to be a disqualifier given your other credentials.

highly doubt lol. what do you have to lose just throw in the application and see what happens
Sort of in the same boat here. Can you just lie tbh?
that would be dumb. i personally have never been asked for my SAT so chill out and apply. seriously, what's the worst that can happen? rejection > getting caught lying
Dude you have a 4.0 from target you're completely fine. Nobody at a MM gives a fuck what you scored on an SAT in high school, especially when you're still 94th+ percentile at 1400+. To put it into perspective, I had a sub 3.5 GPA from a non/semi-target (also SAT 1400-1500) and had no problems getting into processes through BD with 1 of the T1 and 2 of the T2 MMs.
There will be places that care about GPA, but agree.. your SAT should be the least of your worries. I've interviewed at MM/multiple well known SMs all the way through the final rounds with a sub 3.5 GPA.
You guys need to stop worrying about having a 3.7 vs a 4.0 and instead focus on actually nailing down stuff that matters during interviews. Your resume with a 4.0 will go straight to the trash if you can't speak the PM's language
Right I wasn't saying GPA doesn't matter, just that it makes 0 sense to be worried about getting dinged when it's literally perfect. SAT is something like a handful of firms ask about and has barely any weighting even then.
Agreed folks should optimize for how they actually perform in the interview and worry less about the filtering metrics for just getting to round 1.
Damn gives me some hope then
I’ve never given a shit about SAT. Our pod does filter GPA pretty aggressively though, based somewhat on how difficult we think your major was haha
