Mid-30s Career Change
New to the forum. Little about me:
- Graduated from CMU back in 2008. I'm in my mid-30s.
- Have significant experience in FinTech. I've averaged $250k / yr salary (except for my 1st 2 yrs out of school). Maxed out at $300k / yr currently, and the work has gotten routine.
- Started a Boxing / HIIT business simultaneously w/my work in FinTech. Managed build-out, dozen or so staff, sales, marketing, payroll, etc while doing my other FinTech job. Business is gone after 2 years as a result of COVID. $2.2m loss, which was a tough pill to swallow.
- On the side, I run my own portfolio 70% SP500 / 30% highly concentrated SaaS stocks, which I've now rebuilt to a pretty decent amount after my business closure.
- Taking CFA Level 1 in Feb
- Have some in-roads to a Biotech Hedge Funds, which is NOT my jam so I don't want to start those convos because I don't have immediate value to add.
Now for my question... I haven't followed the "typical" route (Harvard/Stanford/Princeton undergrad--> BB IB job--> Harvard/Stanford MBA--> PE/HF/VC). I'm "old" by most of your standards too. But I have a very hands-on understanding of opening/running/unwinding businesses, strong in finance and also strong in technology.
Realistically, what's the best way to get my foot in the door at a Hedge Fund? Are there certain companies (small vs large) or focused strategies (distressed, long/short etc) that would give me a higher probability?
Thanks.
Hey silverback.investor, I swear if I had a silver banana for every lonely thread I posted too I'd be richer than @compbanker ...
More suggestions...
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
