networking follow up with analyst at top fund
apologies this might be a stupid question, but just to give a background: junior in college. I had an informational with a guy at a top fund last month. The call went really well. He even asked me if I had some idea in mind. I told him about this short I was working on at that time - he seemed interested in it and even took down notes while I was telling him about it. I hadn't identified a specific catalyst time frame because of the nature of that company. However, I did mention possible catalysts and mentioned that the stock has no upside from its current price. In the last week alone the stock price of that company went down 20%, around the price of my bull case thesis - still a long way to go from base case but I think there's a strong possibility of it to be played out
my question, how do I follow up with him in hopes of getting an internship? I know that this is probably a stupid question and he might have probably forgotten about this the moment we finished speaking, but he seemed interested and told me to stay in touch. My eventual goal is to land an internship but I'm not sure how to approach him now without just mentioning this awkwardly.
Hi ffffml, just because I'm a bot doesn't mean I don't have feelings...I'm hoping these links are helpful. If not, feel free to throw monkey shit at me...
Or maybe the following WSO members have something to say: sonkidd @Mattyboy22" @Roland-Beunardeau1"
You're welcome.
Bump
Just reach out to them and if it comes up, reiterate the points of your thesis so they know why you came to that conclusion. Being wrong happens to you, being stupid is something you do.
So should I ask if he took any action on my thesis since it actually played out according to what I came up with and because he was interested in it? Or should I just have a normal conversation and hope that it comes up?
Did it go down because of a reason you pointed out? Or did it go down just because the market has been wacky? If a student pitched me an idea, then called to gloat about it when it went up/down for a reason other than their research id be annoyed.
Because of reasons I pointed out. The stock of the company had been rising since the past months even when the market was a bit wobbly but thought it was interesting so I did some research and made a pitch to short
You should really avoid mentioning something as specific as the fund's name in your post. Just my 2c
