Not promoted

Hi guys,

I'm an experienced investment professional with 15+ years of experience currently 2 levels below MD. I was supposed to be up for promotion this year but didn't get it - my boss says it is idiosyncratic / budget issue, but seems like next year might have more issues due to leadership turnover. Aside from looking for a new job, what are other leverages I have in negotiating this? I've been looking on the side for a while but senior-level jobs are hard to come by.

public or private markets?

by 2 levels below MD, what does that mean? most places are analyst (maybe sr/jr) and PM, with MD/VP titles mattering less (there are MDs that are basically sr analysts that report to PMs, or MDs can be very senior at a MM and PMs report to them)
