Squarepoint Fundamental Equities programme potential?
Thought of starting a thread for the 2025 SA London programme, any insights into what the summer entails, or the opportunities as a Grad at a shop like this? I know they don't run a typical pod structure, it seems analysts get their own book pretty early, and it's seen as a " collaborative " place, where ideas are shared? What would the economics of a new analyst at SP be like? Do people stay around on the equities side? Or do most lateral to other MMs? If they do is it as PMs usually or Sr Analysts / analysts. Thanks
It’s very very new, only deployed capital a year/two years or so ago. Still scaling the strategy/team. So your question on what people tend to do doesn’t apply here, it’s basically a newborn.
Interviewed with them for SA a year or so ago, at the time it was just ex sellsiders with no buyside xp which I felt was a red flag, but this could be unwarranted as they’re still growing. Good place to be for early opportunity (I.e getting coverage/a small book early)
Ended up going with one of the big pods for grad, so no idea how the grad scheme works.
also no one I interviewed with at M/C knew squarepoint ran a fundamental strat, take that as you will.
Understood, thanks for the insight.
Was this in London?
They feel similar to the way De Shaw runs their fundamental shop, exciting young career prosects but doesn't seem like a long term destination. It seems they decided to headhunt some of the best ER analysts ( a very good industrials analyst from Jefferies I heard) and give them a book.
Not sure if you want me to add further opinions here, but I don't think anyone can give you a definitive idea of whether its a good place to start a career in L/S. If you think you will be able to learn there and also have some opportunity to fail and learn from that, then you should be inclined to take it. I would push hard for M/C/P graduate programs though, so the main question is whether this is something to take over the sellside.
No idea how DE Shaw runs their fundamental equities team, but I have never wanted to work there so I can't confirm or deny your thoughts.
Yes this was ldn
Would love to PM have third round with them soon
sure
SP third round ?
Not typical pod model but run risk constrained, they bill as a place where you get to take responsibility early on. Style seems similar enough where you can transition to pods if you choose so.
dunno about london
some of the dumbest analysts ive ever crossed path with in the US..maybe the PMs are good? - nvr met or heard of any of them
Given what i know about their core quant biz can't imagine it's a good place to work for and the above seems to support that
What do you know about their quant arm that makes you think it’s not a good place ?
theyre one of the more prominent fake interview to try to steal strats firms
lots of employee disputes of all sorts
Bump. Any updates here? Interviewing for Fundamental Equity role. Anyone know how comp is structured? Seems like Analysts dont take real risk but put on buy/sell ratings and quant team can construct portfolio around it.
