Starting A Hedge Fund

Hi all,

So long term I want to start a hedge fund.

Currently, I am in Canada, and definitely not in a target school.
Pursuing a business degree in accounting, with a minor in computer science. Current GPA is about 85%.

I trade on my own time, and its somewhat profitable.

As I said, I would like to start a hedge fund once I graduate.

Any ideas to raise money/start?

In terms of degree:
My options are
1) Double major accounting/finance
2) Single major in accounting/finance and minor in computer science + minor in economics
3) Get CPA ready (single major accounting, 3 CPA prep courses) + minor computer science or economics (Current goal)
4) Get Finance licensing ready (single major finance, CSC=1 finance credit + CFA lvl 1= 2 finance credits) + minor computer science or economics

In terms of experience:

No past experience aside from personal trading.
No good internships in my area, and I am not relocating.
I can relocate after graduation to gain experience. (Job Suggestions?)

In terms of other things:
Decent personal track record, but then again, personal trading != hedge fund trading.
Should I join clubs?
How important is networking?

Goal is to change from personal trading -> hedge fund. Thanks for advice!!

One of my friends transferred to Ryerson for those reasons. Not a particularly good university, but just being in Toronto is an advantage.

Probably might have to do a masters since I'm past year 2.

Practically impossible given you’d need to raise funds and without an institutional track record it’s not happening unless you have rich parents. Secondly, the HF space itself is already small enough in Canada where even if you want to gain HF experience at a good fund, it’s also highly highly unlikely based on your background unless you get lucky
