The Hedge Fund "Look"
What would you say is the best look (best i.e., someone who you would say "that person looks awesome") for men and women at major hedge funds on the East Coast? Any specific designers or items that are "must haves"?

Career Resources
Is this a fucking joke? Why would it matter what kind of job they have or what coast they're on? Must have designers? Barf.
I feel substantially dumber for having read this.
The funniest part is going to be when these kids realize that some of the most plain (and even sometimes dirty) people have the most money. The people you never expect can be the people who will buy and sell everyone else over many, many times
I smell insecurity.
Most hf guys I know are business casual at best (yes, some are business attire). Some of the quant guys look like the guys from the Big Bang Theory if they crawled out of a physics lab after a 4 day theoretical math bender battling the white boards. And lost.
vests. lots of vests
Most people at the fund I was at over the summer wore jeans
Pay attention to what other people are wearing at your firm and go along those lines. If it's business casual... there you go. The only "must haves" are competence, a willingness to take criticism and eagerness to learn. Looking professional and put together is a "bullet point" or checklist item, your value is the only thing you should concern yourself with.
gym shorts, ripped up v-neck with a few blood stains on it ,Ferragamo loafers and a fedora
In a word, "RennFaire"
VESTS
its much more casual than banking in general I would add. (no suits unless investor meetings)
ed hardy or gtfo
Perhaps I asked the wrong way. I know the look for men is well-fitting jeans and a blazer or nicely tailored shirt. I'm quite interested in what you see women wearing.
it's fall stupid. yoga pants, fur vests, uggs, and PSL
on a serious note, I have no idea. if you have a mentor, call and ask them.
That kind of stuff makes you say "that person looks awesome?"
Are you asking because you're a woman wondering what to wear to an upcoming job? I'd say >95% of the people on here are male and believe it or not, most guys rarely have a clue what woman are wearing and are just sneaking cleavage or ass glances. I remember seeing a couple of threads regarding woman's clothes that you may be able to search for.
@"ArcherVice" is correct. Just dress similarly to how everyone else in the office dresses, and regardless of the dress code, from totally tech casual to formal business, just look sharp. And no one gives a shit about brands. If they did they'd work in the fashion industry or for GQ.
I've covered women's business attire in previous posts, look there for more in depth guidance. Off the top of my head, it's fall and in a laid back office setting, I'd look at Peruvian connection, Pringle of Scotland, burberry, kate spade, tahari, ann taylor, ralph lauren etc... No need to re-invent the wheel, it's all dependent on what your style is but once again. This is a bullet point, nothing more. No guy (except me) is going to recognize what designer your clothes are from, all that matters is you look well kept and presentable.
Again, your work product and attitude - trump all.
silk, nothing touches this body but silk!!!
i did a bus tour recently with a HF guy who wore a hoodie.
I sat next to Leon Cooperman at a play a few weeks ago and he was complaining to his wife about how expensive the tickets were. The seats weren't even that amazing either.
ValueInvestor
a hoodie - completely serious
Apple Bottom jeans + boots with the fur
Full body juicy - velour.
Lax pinnies
I work in the same building that the hedge fund Paulson & Co has their offices in and I've seen John Paulson go in/out of the building on a few occasions. I usually see him wearing a very nice Savile Row suit, Charvet shirts and shoes by John Lobb. If there ever was such a thing as a "hedge fund look" (old school hedge fund, not a quant fund like D.E. Shaw, etc.), my vote would be for that.

They're my favorite brand for formal menswear, and their women's biz wear is super professional, while not looking toolish.
Also, many girls I've met on the buy-side have the coat below, in black. It's almost like a finance-female uniform piece.

in all seriousness, i can always spot the Citadel/Surveyor guys at conferences because they all have 'the look.'
I always respect the "I don't give a fuck what I'm wearing because I have more money than you" look.
